Chapter 120 A Hasty Escape
Chapter 120 A Hasty Escape
Chapter 120 A Hasty Escape
He knew that these fugitives had been driven mad by their frenzy, and a direct confrontation might cause them to detonate explosives, harming innocent civilians.
"Get out of here!"
One of the fugitives roared and raised a bomb.
"We have nothing left! We might as well all die together!"
Li Wei's mind raced. He noticed a fire hydrant next to the park and immediately had an idea.
He pretended to back away, and taking advantage of the moment when the fugitive's attention was diverted, he quickly rushed towards the fire hydrant.
Open the valve forcefully, and a jet of high-pressure water gushes out instantly.
He adjusted the direction of the water flow and sprayed it towards the feet of the three fugitives.
The water flow was extremely powerful, catching the three fugitives off guard. They were knocked to the ground, and the explosives in their hands fell to the ground.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, Li Wei rushed forward, kicked away the explosive charge, and then quickly subdued the three fugitives, handcuffing them together.
"Get out of here immediately!"
Li Wei shouted to the citizens in the pavilion. The citizens immediately rushed out of the pavilion.
Citizens ran towards the park exit, their faces filled with relief at surviving the ordeal.
Just then, Gordon's voice came through the walkie-talkie, his tone urgent.
"Levy, the situation in Arkham is bad! More fugitives are rushing out, and our officers are about to be overwhelmed!"
The technical department said that the core server of the security system was physically damaged and cannot be repaired in a short time!
Furthermore, Two-Face, along with a group of fugitives, occupied City Hall, threatening to blow it up and demanding the release of all Arkham fugitives!
"I'm coming right away!"
Li Wei responded, then quickly ran towards Arkham Asylum.
He knew that Arkham was the source of this chaos and that he had to take control of it as soon as possible to prevent more criminals from escaping.
Along the way, Li Wei constantly encountered fugitives, some fighting alone, others in groups of three or five.
With his superb fighting skills and calm judgment, he repeatedly turned danger into safety and subdued one fugitive after another.
His police uniform was soaked with sweat, and there was a cut on his arm with blood seeping through the fabric.
But he didn't stop at all; he simply wrapped his arm with a strip of cloth and continued on his way.
In a narrow alley, Li Wei encountered two armed fugitives.
They were holding a little girl hostage, pointing a gun at her head, and shouting at Li Wei.
"Don't come any closer! Or we'll kill her!"
Li Wei stopped and raised his hands above his head to indicate that he meant no harm.
"Release her, and you can leave."
"Don't try that on us!"
One of the fugitives roared.
"We know we'll get caught anyway if we go out! We might as well take someone else down with us!"
Li Wei's gaze was fixed on the fugitive's eyes, his tone calm yet carrying an invisible sense of oppression.
"You were just used by Bane. He sent you out to create chaos while he hid in the shadows, waiting to reap the benefits."
Even if you kill her, you won't escape; your crimes will only be compounded.
"Release her, and I can guarantee you a fair trial."
The fugitives hesitated for a moment, then exchanged a glance, clearly moved by Li Wei's words.
Just then, a burst of maniacal laughter suddenly came from the alley entrance, and the clown rushed in with two escaped convicts.
"Oh! Look what we've seen! A touching story of persuading someone to surrender! How utterly boring!"
He shouted at the two fugitives.
"Don't listen to him! There are no fair trials in Gotham!"
Chaos is the only truth! Kill that little girl, and show Livy our resolve!
Provoked by the clown's words, the two fugitives' eyes turned crazed again. They raised their guns and pointed them at the little girl's head.
Li Wei reacted extremely quickly; he rushed forward.
He simultaneously drew his sidearm and accurately struck the wrists of both fugitives, causing their guns to fall to the ground.
He pulled the little girl behind him and then quickly subdued the two fugitives.
Upon seeing this, the clown's smile vanished instantly. He frowned, then burst into laughter again.
"What a spoilsport! Li Wei, you always ruin my fun!"
But that's okay, our game has only just begun!
He turned and ran out of the alley, shouting as he ran.
"I'll be waiting for you in Arkham! I have an even bigger surprise for you!"
Li Wei handed the little girl over to the police officers who arrived shortly afterward and gave them instructions.
"Send her to a temporary shelter and contact her family."
Then he continued running toward Arkham Asylum.
Finally, Levi arrived at Arkham Asylum.
The scene before him was even more chaotic than he had imagined; the gates of the mental hospital had been blown up.
The walls were riddled with bullet holes and cracks, and dozens of police officers were engaged in a fierce struggle with the fugitives.
The fugitives were numerous and most of them were armed. The police officers gradually lost ground, and many were injured and fell to the ground.
A police officer was struck on the head with an iron bar by a fugitive, bleeding profusely, and collapsed to the ground unconscious.
"Li Wei! You've come!"
Gordon saw Levi and a hint of relief appeared on his face.
"These guys are insane, we can't hold on much longer!"
The Two-Face team also needs reinforcements, but we don't have enough manpower left!
"Tell the officers to tighten their defenses, hold the main exits, and avoid a direct confrontation!"
Li Wei spoke quickly, drawing his sidearm and joining the fight.
"I've already informed Batman about Two-Face. He'll go over there once he's dealt with the Joker!"
I'll go check the rooftop; Bain might be there!
Li Wei fired as he ran toward the roof of the asylum.
He moved nimbly, dodging the fugitives' attacks, and quickly rushed up the stairs.
Chaos erupted in the stairwell as several fugitives fled downstairs. Upon seeing Li Wei, they immediately raised their weapons and attacked.
Li Wei dodged to the side, simultaneously punching a fugitive in the chin, knocking him to the ground.
They then quickly dealt with the other fugitives and continued towards the rooftop.
In the second-floor corridor, Li Wei encountered the scarecrow.
The scarecrow was standing at the end of the corridor, holding a huge gas canister.
Green mist continuously poured out of the can's opening, permeating the entire corridor.
"Li Wei, we meet again."
The scarecrow's voice was hoarse and eerie.
"Do you think you can stop all of this? Fear is human nature, and as long as fear exists, my power will not disappear."
Today, I will plunge all of Gotham into fear!
"You're wrong. Fear doesn't control everything."
Li Wei's eyes were firm as he took out a simple antidote spray from his backpack.
This was a mixture he had prepared beforehand; although it couldn't completely neutralize the fear gas, it could alleviate its effects.
"What truly governs everything is courage and hope."
The scarecrow sneered, raised the gas canister, and sprayed a large amount of green mist in Li Wei's direction.
"Courage and hope? Those are all self-deceiving lies!"
Faced with absolute terror, they are utterly defenseless!
Li Wei immediately put on a gas mask and pressed the button for the antidote spray.
The white, mist-like medicine dispersed amidst the green toxic gas, neutralizing some of its effects.
He rushed towards the scarecrow, dodging the poison gas attack, and punched it in the chest.
The scarecrow grunted and took a few steps back, dropping the gas canister in its hand to the ground.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, Li Wei rushed forward, subdued the scarecrow, and handcuffed it to the railing of the corridor.
"Your game of fear is over," Li Wei said coldly.
The scarecrow struggled and began to scream madly.
"No! This isn't over yet! Lord Bane will win! Gotham will be plunged into eternal fear!"
Li Wei ignored him and continued running towards the rooftop.
He knew that Bane was the mastermind behind this chaos, and only by finding Bane could he end it all.
When Li Wei finally reached the rooftop, he saw a tall figure.
Bain stood with his arms crossed on the edge of the rooftop, looking down at the chaos below.
He wore a black mask, stood tall and straight like a pine tree, and exuded a suffocating sense of oppression.
Even though they were some distance apart, Li Wei could still sense that the corners of the mouth under the mask seemed to be turning up.
He wore an undisguised sarcasm, as if he were enjoying a farce he had personally directed.
"Bane!"
Li Wei's eyes instantly turned cold, and he gripped the gun tightly.
He knew that Bain was the one who started all this chaos.
He crippled Arkham's security system, he let all the criminals go free, and he wanted to drag Gotham into utter darkness.
Bain slowly turned around, his gaze falling on Levi, his tone cold and authoritative.
"You're the consultant who's been giving Batman clues? Interesting. You're much more stubborn than I thought."
"Your plan will not succeed."
Li Wei said coldly.
"Batman will be here soon, and the police will have the situation under control. You can't escape."
"escape?"
Bain let out a low laugh, tinged with disdain.
"I never thought about running away. What I want is to completely destroy Gotham and destroy Batman's will."
Everything you and Batman did was in vain.
Gotham is essentially a city of sin; it does not deserve light, but only to wallow in darkness.
Li Wei didn't say anything more; he knew there was no point in wasting words with Bain.
He took a deep breath, charged towards Bane, raised his sidearm, and pulled the trigger at Bane's chest.
But Bain reacted very quickly, dodging to the side.
The bullet grazed his shoulder, struck the wall behind him, and sparked.
Bain raised his hand and threw a punch at Li Wei's face, the force of the punch was fierce and carried a powerful force.
Levi quickly dodged to the side, simultaneously striking Bane in the abdomen with a punch.
But Bain's muscles were as hard as iron, and when Levi's fist hit them, it was like hitting a steel plate.
Not only did it not harm Bane, it also made his fist go numb.
"Is that all the strength you have?"
Bain sneered, grabbed Levi's arm, and threw him away with a forceful jerk.
Li Wei fell heavily to the ground, a sharp pain shooting through his chest, and he couldn't help but cough up a mouthful of blood.
He struggled to get up, but Bane stepped on his chest.
Bane's strength was immense; Levi felt as if his ribs were about to be broken and he was having difficulty breathing.
"You're too weak; you're no match for me."
Bain's tone was icy.
"I didn't want to kill you, but you've ruined my plans time and time again, so don't blame me for being impolite."
Levi's mind raced; he knew that a direct confrontation was no match for Bain.
He saw a broken steel pipe nearby, and while Bain was speaking, he suddenly reached out, grabbed the pipe, and slammed it down hard on Bain's shin.
With a "bang," the steel pipe struck Bain's calf, but Bain only frowned slightly, seemingly not suffering much damage.
But this bought Li Wei a little time. He took the opportunity to push Bain's foot away, quickly got up, and ran towards the other side of the roof.
Bain snorted and immediately gave chase.
Li Wei knew he couldn't outrun Bain, so he had to find a way to keep him occupied.
He saw a huge water tank on the edge of the roof and immediately had an idea.
He ran to the water tank, forcefully opened the valve, and water gushed out instantly, rushing towards Bain.
Bain was caught off guard by Levi's move and was hit squarely by the water, causing him to pause slightly.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, Li Wei rushed behind Bane and smashed a steel pipe hard into Bane's head.
Bain reacted quickly, turning around and raising his hand to block, bending the steel pipe. Levi was also forced back a few steps by the force of Bain's blow.
Just then, Levi suddenly noticed that Bain's breathing had become somewhat heavy, and a hint of irritation flashed in his eyes.
He immediately remembered that the enhancement drug injected by Bane had strong side effects, and prolonged fighting and emotional fluctuations would exacerbate these side effects.
Levi seized the opportunity to constantly provoke Bane, while using the rooftop terrain to maneuver around him.
"You think you're so powerful?"
Li Wei said this while dodging.
"You're nothing but a coward who relies on drugs! Without enhancement drugs, you're nothing!"
You're afraid of Batman, afraid of failing, so you resorted to such despicable means to try and wear him down!
Bain's temper indeed became increasingly volatile, and his attacks became more and more ferocious.
"Shut up!"
He roared and punched the water tank next to him, instantly smashing a large hole in the tank and causing water to gush out.
Li Wei gradually lost his strength, and several more wounds appeared on his body, staining his police uniform with blood.
But he did not give up and continued to fight Bain tenaciously.
He knew he didn't need to defeat Bane; he just needed to stall for time until Batman and the police arrived, then he could subdue him.
Meanwhile, Batman has already dealt with the crises in downtown plaza and city hall.
He defeated the Joker, rescued the trapped citizens, and rushed to City Hall to stop Two-Face's plan to blow it up, subduing Two-Face. When he learned that Levi was confronting Bane on the roof of Arkham Asylum, he immediately headed towards the asylum.
Batman, piloting the Batplane, quickly arrived above Arkham Asylum. He saw the two people locked in a fierce battle on the rooftop and immediately swooped down, landing on the roof.
"Bane!" Batman's voice was hoarse and authoritative.
Upon seeing Batman, Bane ceased his attack on Levi, turned around, and fixed his gaze on Batman, a mocking smile playing on his lips: "Batman, you've finally arrived. I thought you were going to hide for ages."
Batman didn't speak, but slowly walked towards Bane, his black cape billowing in the night wind, emanating a powerful aura. Although his body was still weak, his eyes were unusually resolute.
"You look tired, Batman."
Bain gave a cold laugh.
"The continuous battles must have exhausted you, right? You're no match for me now."
"Gotham will not be destroyed by you."
Batman's voice was deep and resolute, carrying an undeniable determination.
"Then let's give it a try!"
Bane roared and charged at Batman, punching him in the chest.
Batman quickly dodged to the side, simultaneously punching Bane's mask.
Bain took a few steps back, and a crack appeared on his mask.
He roared angrily and charged at Batman again, and the two engaged in a fierce battle on the rooftop.
Bane's strength is immense; every punch carries the power to destroy the world.
Batman, with his agility and extensive combat experience, constantly evaded Bane's attacks while searching for an opportunity to counterattack.
However, he had been fighting continuously all night, and his physical strength was already exhausted. His movements gradually became slow, and he had several new wounds on his body. Every time he dodged, he was accompanied by intense pain.
Li Wei leaned against the wall, watching the two fight. He wanted to go and help, but he was exhausted and could only barely support himself. He didn't even have the strength to lift his hand.
He knew that Batman was in extremely poor condition and that it was impossible for him to defeat Bane, who was at his peak.
He had to find a way to give Batman a chance to catch his breath, even if it was just to buy him a moment's respite.
Li Wei's gaze swept across the rooftop and landed on the steel pipe that had fallen to the ground earlier.
He gritted his teeth, used the last of his strength to struggle and crawl over, trembling as he picked up the steel pipe and threw it with all his might towards Bain.
The steel pipe grazed Bain's back, leaving only a shallow scratch and causing no real harm.
Bain paused only slightly before turning his head and staring intently at Levi with his violent eyes, letting out an angry roar.
This brief pause did not give Batman a chance to retaliate.
The moment Bane turned around, a heavy punch slammed into Batman's chest.
Batman groaned and crashed to the ground like a kite with a broken string, spitting out a mouthful of blood.
Batman struggled to get up, but he couldn't muster any strength.
Bane pressed closer, stepping on Batman's arm with such force that Batman couldn't help but cry out in pain.
His mask was shattered by Bane's punch, revealing half of his face covered in exhaustion and scars, yet his eyes remained defiant.
"Batman, you've finally met your match?"
Bain grinned maliciously, his tone full of sarcasm.
"Gotham will be mine!"
Seeing Batman being subdued, Li Wei was extremely anxious. He struggled to stand up, but fell to the ground again.
Just then, he heard a series of hurried footsteps coming from below the rooftop.
Bain's mercenaries arrived, their dense ranks surging towards the rooftop, clearly having received Bain's signal.
Batman knew that if the stalemate continued, both of them would be captured alive by Bane's men.
Not only will his own life be in danger, but Gotham will also be plunged into complete darkness.
He gritted his teeth, used all his strength to push Bain's foot away, struggled to get up, staggered to Levi's side, and helped him up.
"Walk!"
Batman's voice was hoarse and weak, but his tone carried an undeniable determination.
He knew that now was not the time to be reckless. Only by temporarily withdrawing and preserving his strength could he have a chance to make a comeback.
Li Wei was also aware of the urgency of the situation, so he leaned on Batman to barely steady himself.
The two supported each other and ran towards the fire escape on the other side of the roof.
Seeing this, Bain roared and signaled his mercenaries to give chase, while he followed closely behind, refusing to let them go.
"Catch them! Don't let them get away!"
Bane's roar echoed across the rooftop, and mercenaries swarmed up, their footsteps and shouts mingling together, sending chills down one's spine.
Batman, supporting Levi, ran as fast as he could.
The fire escape stairs were narrow and steep, and the two stumbled and almost fell several times.
The pursuers behind them were getting closer and closer, bullets whizzing past their ears, hitting the walls and sending up bursts of gravel.
Just then, Gordon arrived on the rooftop with several officers. Upon seeing the scene before him, his expression changed drastically.
He immediately ordered officers to fire and stop the mercenaries, trying to buy Batman and Reeve time to escape.
"Batman, Reeves, run! We'll hold them off!"
Gordon shouted, firing his gun repeatedly, taking down several mercenaries at the forefront.
However, Bane had too many mercenaries, and the police officers were quickly tied down and unable to completely stop him.
Batman glanced back at Gordon and the officers, a hint of guilt flashing in his eyes, but he didn't stop walking.
He knew that Gordon's restraint could only last for a short time, and they had to escape as soon as possible.
The two stumbled down the fire escape and rushed out of the back door of Arkham Asylum, where they saw Catwoman waiting by the roadside in a black sedan.
Catwoman sensed something was wrong and drove over to meet her.
"Batman! Reeves! Get in the car!"
Catwoman hurriedly opened the car door, her voice filled with anxiety.
Batman helped Levi into the car, and then got in himself.
Catwoman immediately started the car, jerked the steering wheel, and sped away from Arkham Asylum.
Bane and his mercenaries chased after the car and fired wildly at it.
Bullets struck the car with loud "bangs," shattering the windows and sending shards of metal into the vehicle.
Li Wei leaned back in his seat, breathing heavily.
His wounds started bleeding again from the intense running, and he looked out the window at the rapidly receding scenery, his eyes filled with resentment.
"We... just ran away like that?"
Batman leaned back in his seat, his eyes closed. The pain in his chest made it almost impossible for him to breathe. He slowly opened his eyes, his gaze filled with determination.
"It's not running away, it's lying in wait."
Bane is unstoppable now. We must conserve our strength and find his weaknesses in order to retake Gotham.
"I'm driving with all my might," Catwoman said.
"We need to go to the safe house now. It's well hidden, and Bain's men won't be able to find us."
"We'll discuss this further once you've recovered from your injuries."
Outside the car window, the sky was gradually turning a pale white, a new day was about to begin, but the darkness of Gotham had not yet dissipated.
Bane stood on the roof of Arkham Asylum, watching Batman's car disappear into the distance, a sinister smile creeping onto his lips.
"Run, Batman."
Bain said in a low voice, his tone full of disdain.
"No matter where you run, I will find you. Gotham will be destroyed by me."
Inside the car, Li Wei looked at the exhausted and injured Batman beside him, then glanced at Gotham City, still shrouded in shadow outside the window, and made a silent vow.
He won't give up, and neither will Batman. This retreat is merely a prelude to an even fiercer counterattack.
They have temporarily escaped Bane's clutches, but the war has only just begun.
Gotham's future remains uncertain, and they must recover their strength as soon as possible.
They must face Bain's challenge head-on and protect this scarred city.
