Chapter 71 Gods and Divine Messengers
Chapter 71 Gods and Divine Messengers
"What? So you're this stingy in your own world, Master? That really fits my stereotype of you. You're just as frugal in real life as you are."
( ̄へ ̄)
The characters appeared on the screen, and Liang Jiu actually sensed its arrogance from its text.
Looking around, the room was indeed simply furnished. There was a bed, a desk, and a few changes of clothes, with no other decorations.
"That's called pragmatism," Liang Jiu retorted. "It's better than wasting resources on a pretty shell, which doesn't even look pretty to us right now."
(╬Ò‸Ó)
"It's all because your divine power is insufficient! Even if the great Lady Jane only possessed the core, it would still be far superior to your monotonous aesthetic sense!"
The screen floated up and down in mid-air, and Jane flew around the desk once.
"Oh, does the master like reading? What an outdated way of learning! The arrangement of items is completely illogical, and the dust distribution on the windowsill is a disaster."
Although Jane said she looked down on her master, she spontaneously used her divine power to tidy up the room.
The scattered books moved without wind, neatly arranged into the bookshelves according to their size. The coats draped over the back of chairs were smoothed out by the invisible wind and folded back into the closet. Even the dust on the windowsill was precisely swept away by the airflow and carried outside.
After finishing her explanation, Jane hovered in mid-air and began to speak to herself.
(˘・_・˘)
"Actually, I didn't really want to come here. There's nothing particularly fun about it."
Liang Jiu didn't expose him.
"I know, but shouldn't a god comfort his subjects?"
(///_///)
"Lord Jian isn't angry about what happened before! ...That must take a lot of divine power."
"About one million pounds."
?
A huge question mark popped up on the screen.
"Rest assured, my great master Jane, I am equally great and have no shortage of divine power, but I am indeed a bit short of Federal currency."
(O_O)?
"Why use Federal Currency?"
Liang didn't reply for a long time. He picked up the Jane that was hovering in the air, put it in his pocket, and walked out of the house with it.
During the journey, he dialed Pan Xiaopang's number.
"Do me a favor and find out if there are any specialty stores selling this kind of machinery."
The person on the other end of the communication line thought for a while.
"A specialty store for mechanical products? That's pretty niche. Let me check it out for you."
The last address was sent to Liang Jiu's terminal.
Liang Jiu led Jian to the street and walked towards that spot.
It's an ordinary world. In Jane's imagination, the world where the gods reside should have some wonders, but now it seems utterly unremarkable. Occasionally, some strange creatures walk along the road, but there's nothing particularly noteworthy about it.
( ̄ ー ̄)
"Master, your world is so different from what I expected."
"There are already very few people who can awaken the divine realm, not to mention that it takes a lot of divine power to bring their followers to the mortal world. Most low-level gods cannot bring anything out of the divine realm in their entire lives, while high-level gods rarely return to the mortal world."
( ̄ ^ ̄)
"In that case, you should be grateful that the great Lord Jane could be so considerate of you, even though you are so small."
Liang Jiu smiled but didn't reply.
The two arrived at the shop recommended by Pan Xiaopang.
The sign reads "Old Man's Building Materials Shop".
The shopkeeper was a man whose age was impossible to discern. Most of his body had been replaced with prosthetics, but his divine power was shockingly scarce. In Liang Jiu's view, the man clearly possessed the rank of a third-level god, yet his remaining divine power was no different from that of an unawakened child.
(O_O)
"Hey, Master, is that guy in the shop a robot or a human?" A message popped up on the screen in my pocket.
The man behind the counter noticed the commotion outside the door.
His prosthetic eye spun, his metal pupil contracting to focus, and he put down the part he was polishing. The man emerged from behind the counter, his metal legs clattering on the ground.
"A rare guest, please come in!"
The man greeted us warmly and pulled down a dust cover from the shelf next to us.
"Judging by your appearance, young man, you're here to find parts to replace for your mechanical companions, right? You can't go wrong with me!"
He pointed to the rows of gleaming metal objects on the display shelf and began to describe them in detail.
"High-strength shape memory alloy skeleton, micro superconducting power furnace, and the new neural interface port. Don't let my unassuming shop fool you; I have everything a machine can be equipped with. How about taking a look at that second-generation power arm we just dug out of the Wasteland?"
"From the Wasteland God Realm? You must have hand-distressed it yourself." Liang Jiu examined it carefully but wasn't convinced. "Boss, are you really capable of taking anything from the God Realm in your current state?"
The boss stopped talking and said with a wry smile.
"Young man, why ask such a question you already know the answer to? Since you've come to my shop to buy something, it must be because your family's technological development has gotten out of control." He pointed to the goods behind the counter. "You couldn't possibly have come to my shop to buy a divine power assist system just to make fun of me."
(O_O)?
"What is that weirdo saying? I don't understand." A line of text popped up on the screen as Jane quietly asked Liang Jiu.
Unexpectedly, the boss still noticed the cursor on the screen.
"Is this your familiar? Young man, you look quite young, yet you managed to bring your familiar into the mortal world." The boss's mechanical eyes spun around, scanning her over. "Tsk tsk, a simple divine power processor? The Stinger brand, but it's really intelligent. Did you connect her to an external server? What a lovely child."
The boss developed a strong interest in Jane.
He hadn't seen such a unique mechanical species in a long time, and while marveling at it, he reached out his mechanical hand to touch it.
"Smack."
Jane swayed in mid-air and bumped into the hand out of thin air.
(╬Ò‸Ó)
"Call me the great Lord Jane! And don't you dare eavesdrop on me! You weirdo."
"That's interesting." The boss wasn't annoyed at all. Instead, he introduced Jane, this special intelligent machine, to the topic: "If the followers of the gods are intelligent, they have higher potential, but they also often bring unsolvable troubles."
"As the technology of the kin develops and civilization progresses, their faith in the gods will actually decline. Countless gods have come up with various methods to deal with the predicament. For example, they may periodically send down natural disasters or create wars to wipe out the intelligent kin, bring civilization back to square one, and actively curb the progress of civilization."
The screen that was suspended in mid-air stopped floating.
(;´Д`)
It trembled in mid-air, seemingly quite frightened, and several strings of gibberish flashed wildly at the edge of the screen.
When Liang Jiu saw that his family members were being bullied, he raised his eyes and glared at the boss.
The boss's words came to an abrupt halt.
Realizing he had said too much, he quickly tried to smooth things over with a dry laugh, comforting Jane who had been frightened to tears.
"Haha, don't be afraid, don't be afraid, my great... little friend. Your master was willing to bring you into the world and take such good care of you, he certainly won't abandon you."
