Chapter 1170 - 808: Tender Shoots (Part 2)
"Hey, hey, Flying Squirrel, save your Power of Darkness."Tokke adjusted the sailor’s hat on his head, which he thought made him look like a "veteran," and rolled his eyes.
"When we get to Ring Tower City, the most important thing is to know about the meals and when we can get our hands on a real Magic Power Weapon. I’ve heard they’re amazing. And when can we officially take on a profession and become Professionals?"
Although they were newly turned Blood Race and had undergone the most basic Datafication and Blessing.
During the training, their Level had also been trained to Level Three.
Yet, they still hadn’t taken on any profession.
At the Children’s Home, they were always undergoing various basic knowledge courses and simple combat skills.
"Hehe, Tokke wants to eat again!" Pokanasha twirled lightly like a little butterfly, her silver short hair glinting in the sunset.
She looked to be about ten years old in human terms, wearing a fitted new recruit reserve uniform, her pointy ears wiggling playfully, her big eyes full of pure excitement and curiosity.
"Will the Boot Camp have snacks? Or is it like Grandma Mona said, with only tooth-breaking military rations?"
Though she appeared young, her spirit was lively and bright, but the environment at the Children’s Home had ingrained in her the concept of tough training, which she expressed in a childlike way.
As an Elf, she was actually much older in essence than the other kids present, but her appearance didn’t change much.
Spending a long time with short-lived species made her mindset not match her age.
If other Elves saw this, they might grumble about it.
"Let’s go."
Adam took one last look back at the gates of the Children’s Home and the smiling Nana and Grandpa Veteran waving goodbye, feeling a warm flow in his heart and some reluctance for past times, but mostly the determination to move forward.
Finally, finally going to become a Night Watcher.
The group walked out of the cozy alleys of the Dusk District and merged into the bustling main street of Candlelight City.
This city was like a huge and complex living organism, with the strength of steel and the gentleness of flesh.
The grand Floating Magic Tower stood at the highest point in the city center, a steel spire reaching into the red-tinted evening sky.
There was the candlelight city’s main command center, and it symbolized the powerful strength of the Night Watchers.
In fact, it was a Floating Tower from Ring Tower City that had been relocated here.
The street extending under their feet had dense but orderly workshop areas on each side, with the sound of Forging clanging.
A short walk forward would lead to various living areas, filled with bustling taverns and shops.
The streets were bustling with people, and uniformed Night Watcher Warriors walked in line, conducting their daily necessary Patrols. Candlelight City, being such a large city, also had many outsiders.
There were Night Watcher Apprentice Vocation pushing carts with Alchemy Materials; in such a city back area, there were many Vocation.
There were citizens dressed in simple civilian clothes, seemingly non-combat personnel, many of whom were family members of Night Watchers or some Adventurers settled in the city.
You could even see a few teenagers like them, with reserve sword and torch emblems on their arms, excitedly running in the same direction, towards the city’s harbor.
The Children’s Homes were naturally not just one single building but were spread across different areas of the city. Indeed, there were many children.
Even though many Night Watchers adopted them, they couldn’t adopt all the children.
"Hey, look, ’Iron Hammer Bar’ is doing good business today!" Tokke pointed to a lively bar on the roadside, with a huge Warhammer sign hanging at the entrance, where many retired Night Watcher veterans were inside drinking and chatting.
When they used to live at the Children’s Home, sometimes they’d sneak over here, as there were many veteran Night Watchers, who were very kind to them, the children.
They could occasionally hear some Night Watcher experiences and stories inside.
"I heard the fried meat cutlet here is pretty good..." Eva’s little nose twitched as she caught the delicious aroma, her panther ears wiggling.
"Humph! We seek spiritual nourishment! The essence of Power lies deep within the soul, not in..." Flying Squirrel was about to expound, when Adam helplessly held down his shoulder.
Already had no idea what he was saying, getting sicker by the day.
"Flying Squirrel, save your energy. Hope you don’t get seasick."
"Humph! I am the evil Dominator, and a steel ship is merely my vehicle, how could I possibly get seasick?"
Adam sighed helplessly.
Looking at the tavern, to be honest, he somewhat wanted to go in and listen for a bit.
Because inside there were many retired Night Watchers, so sometimes they could hear a lot of the latest news from the Night Watchers. After all, the channel’s information was real-time, and that’s one reason they often came by here.
Pokanasha bounced up front. To be honest, she still looked like a child.
Normally, they would not let her become a Night Watcher, at least not right now. But she lived with these short-lived species, so her mental age was already the same as theirs.
Plus, she truly is a gifted child with a strong will of her own, so they had no choice but to approve her recruit training application.
"Look! A small garden!" She pointed to a small patch of green carefully tended to by the roadside, with flowers that could even tough it out in the Eastern Wilderness.
"That’s Alice Grandma’s garden! She always says warriors need flowers too." That’s Candlelight City for you—where iron and smoke give way, life’s warmth and tenderness grow.
She said this, and saw Alice Grandma standing by the street, spotting them, she hurried over to give each child a hug.
Seeing the armbands on these kids, tears unintentionally streamed down the granny’s face.
"You kids, why in such a hurry at such a young age?"
Said this while specifically looking at Pokanasha and gave her cheeks a firm tug.
"Especially you, being so young, the Night Watcher would never let you onto the battlefield. Anyone who does would surely get scolded to death."
Pokanasha, feeling a bit sad before, heard this and wrinkled her nose firmly.
"No way, I’m older than Adam, I can become a Night Watcher."
Alice shook her head helplessly and patted the child’s head.
"Don’t worry, Granny, we still have a long way before heading to the battlefield. For now, we’re all still recruits and will continue training in the Training Camp for a while. After training, we’ll go to safe places to fight and gain Experience, so it’ll still be a while."
Adam comforted from the side.
Hearing this, the granny looked at Adam, sighed, and patted his head.
"You’ve always been a mature child. I believe you’ll surely become a renowned Night Watcher in the future, maybe even join the Soul Guardians."
"Soul Guardians? We’ll definitely join the Soul Guardians. I’ve already thought of what name to use after joining."
Eva said eagerly.
"Dark Dominator!" Flying Squirrel said directly.
Tokke gave him a sharp pull.
"Don’t talk nonsense, who’d pick such a ridiculous name; it’s too silly."
"What?! You dark traitor, are you going to betray the great Power of Darkness?"
Watching these kids squabble and cheer each other on, Alice felt somewhat relieved and sighed.
Just then, the sound of loud bells rang in the distance.
Adam quickly said.
"We’ve got to go now. If we’re late, the instructor meeting us on the ship might scold us."
"Go on, go on, kids."
Grandma Alice stood up and sighed.
"Goodbye, Grandma!"
"I’ll come back to see you!"
"Humble mortals, the great Lord of Darkness will give you refuge..."
"Let’s go, stop embarrassing us."
With that, the kids jostled each other, running towards the harbor.
